Education leaders are meeting to discuss ways of tripling the number of Maori students getting a degree by 2020.
A summit hosted by Te Wananga O Aotearoa in Mangere is trying to find solutions to what's been described as the horrific achievement rate of Maori students in secondary and tertiary education.
Of the more than 3000 Maori Year 9 students who started high school in 2004, just 360 went on meet university entrance requirements.
The leader of the Maori into Tertiary Education project, Maria Paenga, says the situation is a crisis, and the group is trying to get more quality information out to families and students about what's needed to achieve at tertiary level.
