Waikato police say a man has been arrested and charged with assault over an incident at a public meeting in the Coromandel town of Tairua on Sunday.
The chairman of the region's conservation board, Arthur Hinds, alleged he was punched in the face by an anti-1080 poison protestor at the meeting.
Police say a Thames man, 57, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in the Thames District Court.
Their enquiries into the incident are continuing.
