Killer back in jail after getting drunk at wedding

A convicted murderer is back in jail after he was caught drunk at a wedding by an off-duty prison guard.

George Trounson was jailed in 1991 for using a broken balustrade to fatally bash his teenage flatmate Russell Neil in Dunedin.

Trounson has been freed from prison four times, and recalled four times because of his risk.

In May, a prison guard acting as a barman at the wedding saw him becoming visibly drunk, in breach of his release conditions.

Trounson also failed to tell the Probation Service in March that he had stopped taking medication for alcohol abuse.

The Probation Service said a return to jail was needed because his drinking was proving too hard to manage.

George Trounson will get another parole hearing in November.
