A man has been arrested after what appeared to be a firearm was pointed at three police staff in Lower Hutt.
Police say the three women officers were travelling in an unmarked patrol car in Naenae when a passenger in a car pointed what they believe was a firearm at them on Thursday.
Acting Lower Hutt Area Commander, Inspector Shane Cotter, says the male passenger had moments earlier been gesturing at the female officers.
A 35 year old man is in custody and charges are pending.
