Name suppression runs out for tax fraud accused

Two Wellington accountants facing multiple dishonesty offences in the District Court have lost their bid for continued name suppression.

David Rowley and Barrie Skinner, who run accounting business Tax Planning Services Ltd, are due to go to trial in February next year on 86 charges of using a document for pecuniary advantage, along with charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The pair had been granted interim suppression by the Wellington District Court, but the Crown appealed that successfully in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

A bid by Mr Rowley and Mr Skinner to take their case for name suppression to the Supreme Court was declined on Thursday, meaning their names can now be published.
