Napier school tells unvaccinated children to stay away

11:11 pm on 30 June 2011

A Napier primary school has become the third in Hawke's Bay this year to tell pupils to stay home until parents produce records they have been vaccinated.

Medical Officer of Health Lester Calder says after one student turned up at school with measles, the school was asked to send more than 120 pupils home.

He says all but 13 pupils who haven't been immunised are now back at school.

Dr Calder says parents need to make sure their children's immunisation certificates are up to date, and that a school or early childhood centre has a copy on file.
