A Hamilton boy is in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital after being hit by a car on a busy road on Thursday.
The boy, whom police say is about 13, appears to have been following a friend who had already run across the road when he was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old male.
Police say the driver tried to avoid hitting the boy at 8.15am.
The accident happened on Ruakura Road, near the entrance to Innovation Park, where the speed limit is 80km/h.
Police say traffic was busy at the time and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The injured boy was identified and his next-of-kin located and taken to the scene before he went to hospital.
