Police have arrested and charged a high-profile sporting personality after he allegedly punched a woman in the face at a Queenstown nightclub.
The incident happened at the packed Ballarat Trading Company in front of stunned patrons on Tuesday night.
The man has been charged with assaulting a female, assaulting a police officer, escaping custody and resisting arrest.
He will appear before a judge, possibly in the Invercargill District Court, later on Wednesday.
The woman is believed to be the man's partner and incident occurred after a celebrity party at the nightclub for the Queenstown Winter Festival.
