More accusations against foster parents

Child, Youth & Family has begun a fresh investigation into a family of former caregivers facing dozens of child abuse charges.

A fifth young person has levelled new accusations at Andrew and Jenny-Lee Hemara, who were foster parents in Wellsford, north of Auckland, until last year.

The Hemaras and their daughter, Tamara, face a total of 38 charges relating to four boys who were living with them.

Court documents show the charges include making two boys run around a racetrack until they vomited, and scrubbing two of the boys' bodies and teeth with a wire brush.

CYF says a fifth young person has now come forward with serious, new allegations.

Northern regional director Grant Bennett says he's determined to get to the truth and new charges will be laid if the accusations are true.

The Hemaras are on bail, awaiting their next appearance in North Shore District Court later this month.
