A man accused of assaulting and kidnapping two men after his business was burgled has appeared in Rangiora District Court.
It's understood David Clemence, a Kaiapoi business owner, tackled the thieves before taking them to the police station.
He has been remanded on bail and will reappear in July to enter a plea.
The two men charged with burglary appeared in the same court on Wednesday.
Both entered no plea and are due to reappear next month.
