A restaurant owner in Auckland says she may have to pay thousands of dollars in council fees to stay open late during a handful of Rugby World Cup matches.
Gail Hunter's restaurant, Papa's Pizzas, has been in operation directly opposite Eden Park stadium for 26 years.
It and at least two other businesses are not included in a proposed Auckland Council group application for Kingsland businesses wanting an extension to opening hours, free of charge.
Ms Hunter says she wouldn't put in an application for a temporary licence because the fee is too high, and says the council's approach is inflexible.
A spokesperson for the council says it is looking at ways of keeping costs as low as possible, within the bounds of the law.
