RWC organisers confident of meeting sales target

Rugby World Cup organisers are confident of reaching their ticket sales target in the next five months.

Rugby New Zealand wants to sell 1.35 million tickets to the tournament but at present is short by more than 500,000 sales.

Chief executive Martin Snedden says sales were on target until the Christchurch earthquake on 22 February.

Sales were set back by $20 million and 130,000 tickets had to be refunded after the quake damaged the stadium and the city could no longer host matches. These tickets are to be offered again for sale.

Mr Snedden says four months out from the start of the World Cup tickets sales are at the same point as they were four months before the 2003 World Cup in Australia.

The tournament will be held from 9 September to 23 October.
