A brothel-keeper in Auckland has been ordered to do community work for trying to unlawfully bring a prostitute into New Zealand.
Immigration New Zealand says it was a lie last year when Gordon Dong said the woman was going to stay for a holiday.
It says in reality she was to work for him as a prostitute.
It is against the law for foreign nationals to be in the country on a temporary visa to work in the sex industry.
The woman was refused entry to New Zealand.
Dong was convicted of aiding and abetting the unlawful entry of a person into the country and has been sentenced to 300 hours of community work.
Immigration New Zealand says the sentence serves as a warning to people who may be tempted to take advantage of the Rugby World Cup.
