The pass rate for learner car licence tests has risen to about 60%, the Transport Agency says.
In August 2009, the agency moved to a computer-based test for learner licence theory, replacing tests being done on paper.
In the months that followed the pass rate plummeted from about 77% to 42%.
Figures show a gradual recovery in the past 18 months and to an average pass rate in the first three months of 60%.
Transport Agency spokesperson Andy Knackstedt says he believes the improvement is a result of people having a better understanding of the road code.
He said that in the past people could memorise a set list of questions whereas the computer test is random.
