A Nga Puhi tourism venture has won a National Geographic tourism accolade.
Taiamai Tours was named one of 50 Top Tours of a Lifetime for a trip that took 30 overseas visitors on hapu activities in the days leading up to Waitangi Day.
Managing director Hone Mihaka says the tour was entered for the award by an American tourism wholesaler who felt the tourists gained an authentic experience of the lifestyle of the people of the north.
He says the visitors stayed for four nights leading up to Waitangi Day on the marae and then went out on the water with the hapu on 6 February.
