Attendance of Maori Advisory Board members questioned

10:00 am on 2 May 2011

The chair of Auckland Council's Maori Advisory Board is defending the attendance of members at committee meetings.

The board was set up as part of the new super-city structure to advise the council on matters of significance to Maori.

Board chairman David Taipari has attended only one committee meeting out of three due to diary clashes.

Mr Taipari says there has been a problem with schedules but at least one board member has been at every meeting.

He says he's confident the board's attendance will be as good as, if not better than, the average councillor.

David Taipari says the board is 100% committed to its job.
