Police in Whangarei say an Australian biker gang, the Rebels Motorcycle Club, is trying to start a chapter in the city.
They say the gang was on Saturday planning to hold its first poker run in which members ride to their clubrooms.
Area commander Inspector Paul Dimery says it's the first time such a large number of gang members have descended on Whangarei and he hopes it will be the last.
He says the gang is made up of organised criminals.
Inspector Dimery says the police will be keeping a watchful eye on the gang this weekend and the public needn't be concerned.
