Quake-hit station to resume broadcasts

Christchurch Television says it plans to resume broadcasting in the next two weeks.

The CTV building in central Christchurch collapsed in February's devastating earthquake, killing almost 100 people including 16 who worked for the station.

The channel launched 20 years ago and was the first regional television station in New Zealand.

CTV chairperson Nick Smith says the decision to resume broadcasting is a legacy to those who lost their lives in the 6.3-magnitude quake and also testament to the fortitude of the people of Christchurch.

A new studio has been built and the first pieces of equipment will be installed on Thursday.

Mr Smith says the station will broadcast 32 hours a week and be available on Freeview, Sky TV or Maori Television.

Broadcasts are scheduled to begin on 18 April.
