Lotto's Powerball jackpot has hit $34 million this week, as the 'must be won' draw was boosted by $2 million due to increased sales in the past few days.
NZ Lotteries says outlets sold 2.3 million tickets in the last such draw, in 2008.
"Our Lotto retailers have reported huge interest from customers, which has prompted this jackpot increase.
"A must-be-won draw attracts a lot of people who don't normally play Lotto to try their luck and buy a ticket," NZ Lotteries chief executive Todd McLeay said in a statement.
