Taxi driver stable after stabbing

A taxi driver is in a stable condition in Wellington Hospital after being stabbed in the suburb of Wilton at the weekend.

The 60-year-old driver picked up a male passenger in the early hours of Saturday morning at a Kilbirnie taxi rank.

The passenger was driven to Shropshire Ave, Wilton, where he stabbed the driver in the chest and abdomen before fleeing from the taxi.
