Police hunt bank robber

7:28 pm on 8 March 2011

Police are hunting for a man they believe may be responsible for two bank robberies in Auckland in the past week.

They say the man was caught on camera robbing the Karangahape Road branch of Westpac about 10am on Tuesday.

After handing a note to the teller demanding money, he left with the cash on foot in the direction of Symonds Street.

Police say it is possible he is also responsible for a similar robbery at Kiwibank on Queen Street last Thursday. They describe him as a tall Maori or Polynesian aged in his 20s or 30s, clean-shaven with close-cropped black hair.

He was wearing a distinctive black-hooded sweatshirt with a large blue and white pattern and the words Ecko UnLtd on it .

Police say anyone who may know the man should contact police or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
