Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully has ordered a report into a Thai police investigation of four deaths at a hotel including that of a New Zealander.
Sarah Carter, 23, and two friends became ill after eating at a street market in Thailand's second biggest city, Chiang Mai in February.
Ms Carter subsequently died, while her friends recovered and have since returned to New Zealand.
Police in Thailand are investigating her death and those of a British couple believed to have been in their 70s and a Thai tour guide who all stayed at the same hotel over a three-week period.
Police say there is no indication yet that the deaths are linked.
However, Richard Carter wants more done by the Thai and New Zealand governments to find out why his daughter died, saying the deaths are no coincidence.
Mr McCully says he will decide what action is warranted once he has received a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
MFAT says New Zealand's embassy in Thailand has requested the results of tests on Ms Carter and her friends, and the findings into two investigations by the Thai Centre for Disease.
