Airport gets green light to purchase car park

8:05 pm on 27 January 2011

Christchurch International Airport has been given the go-ahead to purchase a block of land for car parking.

The building is being used for Craddocks Car Storage, a large car parking facility on airport land 1km from the terminal.

The Commerce Commission considered whether the airport's proposal to aquire the land would disadvantage competition for long-term parking near the airport.

But commission chair Mark Berry says he is confident the purchase will not affect the market.

Christchurch International Airport chief executive Jim Boult says the acquisition is simply about offering more to their customers and it will sit down with Craddocks to talk over a deal.
