Help for New Zealanders in flood-hit state

6:25 pm on 21 January 2011

New Zealanders affected by the Queensland floods and not eligible for a Disaster Relief Payment have been inundated with donations.

Only people who are Australian residents, or who moved to Australia before February 2001 and have a protected special category visa, can apply for the $A1000 payment.

The spokesperson for the group Maori-in-oz.com on the Gold Coast says New Zealanders are also unsure whether they will qualify for the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund.

Christel Broederlow says she put the call out for help and it there has been a great response.

She says donations from New Zealanders living in other states have included furniture, food, money and even job offers for people.
