Electronic spending fell last month. Statistics New Zealand says the value of transactions on credit, debit and charge cards fell by 1.2%.
December's fall followed three consecutive months of rises in spending.
All sectors recorded falls except for a 3.3 per cent rise in retail fuel.
Core retailing dropped by 1.6%.
