Police in Waikato say a man appeared in Hamilton District Court on Friday facing serious charges after an armed callout in rural Waikato.
The a 57-year-old has been remanded in custody until 6 January on charges of assaulting a female and recklessly discharging a firearm.
Police say the callout followed an incident between Kawhia and Taharoa at about 11pm on Thursday.
They say a number of shots were fired and officers set up cordons to await the arrival of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad by helicopter.
No one was hurt but police say the incident was very serious.
They say there were 25 other lesser callouts to cases involving family violence in Waikato on Thursday night.
