Big rise in SFO prosecutions

6:25 pm on 10 December 2010

The Serious Fraud Office has prosecuted almost as many fraud cases in the past five months as it normally would in a year.

During the past four financial years, the SFO averaged 12.5 prosecutions a year.

Since July this year, the number is already at 11, including the directors of B'On Financial Services and Capital + Merchant Finance.

The Law Society says the increase in prosecutions is a result of the collapse of several companies during the past few years.
