Two private schools to join state sector

The Government has approved applications from a Jewish and a Muslim private school to become integrated state schools.

Kadimah School, a Jewish school in central Auckland, and Zayed College for Girls, a Muslim school in Mangere, were part of a spate of integration applications in the past two years by schools finding it difficult to make ends meet.

As integrated schools they get more Government funding, but must lower their fees.

The Government says two other applications have the green light to negotiate integration agreements and two have been declined.

Wanganui Collegiate School is seeking to integrate and expects to hear before the end of the year whether it will be approved to enter negotiations.
