Union critical of advertising spending

12:26 pm on 17 November 2010

The Tertiary Education Union is asking why tertiary institutions are spending millions of dollars on advertising at a time when they are turning students away.

The union has published figures showing that half of the country's tertiary institutions spent $18 million on marketing last year.

Union president Sandra Grey says the spending is not sensible and there appears to be no let up this year.

She says the Government's funding cap and an increase in applications, mean some institutions are closing enrolments early and turning students away.
