Police say the person who sparked a search for a body in a west Auckland rubbish dump has admitted giving them wrong information.
About seven officers searched about 160 tonnes of rubbish at a Henderson transfer station on Wednesday after a report that a body had been seen in a skip at a school.
Several rubbish trucks were diverted to bring their loads to the tip for searching, but nothing was found.
A police spokesperson says a person called the police communications centre to say they had seen a body.
However, when officers later questioned him he said the information was inaccurate.
