Multiple fire crews are battling a blaze that has critically injured one person and engulfed a workshop in Eskdale, north of Napier.
Emergency services were called to the rural Seafield Road property about 1.20pm.
Fire and Emergency says it has five fire trucks and two water tankers working in the building that is about the size of a three bay garage.
One person has been flown to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition.
St John had a helicopter there with two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles.
It said one person was assessed at the scene.
