Killers of policeman appealing sentences

3:18 pm on 30 September 2010

A man found guilty of the murder of an undercover police officer is appealing against his conviction and sentence.

John Skinner shot Sergeant Don Wilkinson several times with an air rifle in South Auckland two years ago.

A High Court jury also found him guilty of attempting to kill another police officer. He was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison in August.

Skinner's associate Iain Clegg was convicted of Sergeant Wilkinson's manslaughter and is appealing against his eight-year sentence which has a minimum non-parole period of four years.

A date for the appeals to be heard is yet to be set.
