A multi-vehicle crash closed a section of Christchurch's northern motorway on Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the multi-vehicle crash, between Ohoka and Tram Roads, shortly after 10.30am.
The crash closed southbound lanes for almost two hours.
Paramedics treated seven people after the crash.
St John said one patient in a serious condition was taken to hospital, along with three others in a moderate condition.
Three people with minor to moderate injuries were treated at the scene.
