Two people have died after a crash between a truck and a car on State Highway 1 near Brynderwyn in Northland.
Police received a report of the incident just after 3am on Friday.
The two occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver sustained only minor injuries, police said.
The road will be closed intermittently as the Serious Crash Unit continues to work at the scene.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and take an alternative route if possible.
An investigation was now underway to determine the cause of the crash.
