Man charged with murder over death of six-month-old baby in Foxton Beach

A man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a six-month-old baby in Foxton Beach.

Emergency services were called to a house on Seabury Avenue on 29 June after a baby was found with critical injuries.

The baby was airlifted to Auckland's Starship Hospital, but died on 5 July.

Detective Inspector Craig Sheridan, said a 25-year-old man in Tauranga had been arrested in relation to the death on Tuesday.

"Police have undertaken a thorough and diligent investigation, and we are pleased to put someone before the courts to be held to account for this tragic death," he said.

"Police will continue to support the baby's family through this incredibly distressing time."

The man will appear in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
