The housing provider which took over operation of Wellington City Council's social housing service has announced its first two new developments.
Te Toi Mahana is the community housing provider which was established in August 2023 to take over the Wellington City Council's housing portfolio, and manages 1800 properties.
It has been announced the housing landlord will build its first two new developments in the northern Wellington suburbs of Tawa and Crofton Downs.
The Tawa development includes 12 two-bedroom townhouses and 24 one-bedroom apartments. The Crofton Downs project includes two two-bedroom townhouses and 21 one-bedroom apartments.
Te Toi Mahana lodged resource consents for both properties and if those were granted construction was slated to begin next year, with the first homes likely to be completed in early 2027.
The provider's chief executive Jonathan Manns said it was a key moment for Te Toi Mahana.

"Everyone deserves somewhere to call home, but the market fails to deliver housing which meets the full spectrum of need that exists in Pōneke.
"We believe that Community Housing Providers (CHPs) are best-placed to understand and meet that need. These developments provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate that to Wellingtonians."
Te Toi Mahana board chair Andrew Turner said the new builds were the first step on a journey to grow their housing portfolio by 30 percent.
"Over the next ten years our goal is to own and manage an additional 500 affordable homes in Wellington."
The Trust was working with existing tenants at each site to support them in finding suitable, alternative accommodation whilst the redevelopments take place.
