A body has been found near the coast in the Christchurch suburb of Scarborough.
Police were notified shortly before midday on Thursday.
However, police do not believe the body is missing 17-year-old Marley.
An extensive search of the coastline by air, land and water had previously failed to find him.
A spokesperson said the public should avoid the area and expect a police presence while enquiries were carried out.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
