A sixth teenager has been arrested over the fatal stabbing of Kaea Karauria in Napier four months ago.

The 15-year-old died on 11 May after being found critically injured on the street after a birthday party.

Detective Inspector Martin James said a teenager was taken into custody early Friday morning, and was charged with intent to injure.

"This arrest is another step further to providing closure for Kaea's family and loved ones."

The investigation was continuing, and further arrests could not be ruled out, he said.

"I would like to acknowledge the investigation team who have worked tirelessly on this matter.

"These six arrests in total show the dedication this team has to give Kaea the justice he deserves."

The police urged anyone else with information about the case to get in touch, quoting reference number 250511/1317.
