Two people have been arrested after an assault outside an Auckland supermarket last week.

The victim and his family were approached by the alleged offenders in a Pukekohe supermarket car park at 12.30pm on Friday.

The two men then assaulted the man in an unprovoked attack, Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Matt Hoyes said.

"These alleged offenders have viciously attacked this man in broad daylight, punching him and kicking him while he was on the ground."

Hoyes said security intervened and stopped the assault prior to police arriving.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

"Our team has been working hard to identify and locate those responsible for this brazen assault and this morning we executed two search warrants at properties in Pukekohe where two people were taken into custody," Hoyes said.

"People have a right to be safe going about their business, without having to be subjected to needless violence.

"Let this be a message that this is not accepted behaviour and those engaging in it will be held to account."

Two men, aged 22 and 20, will reappear in Manukau District Court on 5 December charged with aggravated robbery.
