Former body builder jailed for selling steroids

A former body builder has been jailed for selling illegal anabolic steroids.

The Ministry of Health says Mark William Rainbow earlier admitted 38 breaches of the Medicines Act.

They include possession of the steroids and related medicines used for performance and image enhancement, and the sale of unapproved medicines.

The ministry says Rainbow imported them from Thailand in bottles falsely labelled Gay Lube Oil, then re-packaged and sold them on, supplying at least three people.

It says the medicine was not pharmaceutical quality and he was putting people's health at risk.

Rainbow was jailed for three months when he appeared in Auckland District Court for sentencing on Friday.

He is also to serve five years' jail for separate offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
