A homicide investigation has been launched after the death of a man in Mangapapa this morning.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a Winter Street address about 6.50am and found a man who was unresponsive
Tairāwhiti Area Commander Inspector Danny Kirk said police immediately started first aid efforts.
"Unfortunately, despite emergency services best efforts, the man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene."
Kirk said police were carrying out "several enquiries" to find out what happened.
"Police are speaking with several people in connection to this incident and are satisfied that there is no ongoing risk to the public."
The scene has been cordoned off, and a scene examination will be held in the morning.
A post-mortem examination will also be carried out tomorrow.
