Five people charged in relation to the death of Tyreece Te Pairi were greeted with cries of support in the High Court at Hamilton on Tuesday morning.
The five accused stood separately, surrounded by Corrections staff in the downstairs public gallery while supporters crowded the upstairs area.
Te Pairi was fatally injured in central Hamilton shortly after midnight on 20 July after the All Blacks played in the city.
All five entered not guilty pleas to a range of charges.
Justice Tahana continued all interim suppressions on names, facts and circumstances relating to the case and set a trial date in May 2028.
