Police have now completed their investigation at the scene of a house fire in Palmerston North, as one man faces arson charges in court on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the fire on Main Street which affected three residential properties yesterday afternoon.
Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross said a 26-year-old was taken into custody at the scene by police and treated for smoke inhalation.
He has since been charged with two counts of attempted arson and unlawfully possessing an offensive weapon.
He is due to appear in Palmerston North District Court today.
Ross said no one else was injured in the fire.
A scene guard was also in place overnight while the scene was being investigated. Ross said these examinations were now complete.
