A woman has been charged with murder after a reported stabbing in the Bay of Plenty settlement of Awakeri.
Emergency services were called to a property on State Highway 30 at around 4.30pm on Thursday after reports of a serious assault.
Despite medical attention, an injured woman died at the scene.
News outlet Pūkāea reported the incident was a fatal stabbing at a local hot pools.
Another woman was taken into custody.
The 25-year-old is due to appear in Whakatāne District Court on Friday, charged with murder.
Police said they had launched a homicide probe and were not looking for anyone else.
Pūkāea executive producer Kereama Wright told RNZ the victim's body was still at the hot pools, which was closed Friday morning.
The campsite at the facility remained open.
Wright said local kaumatua led a karakia at the holiday park on Friday morning.
