Fire and Emergency are cleaning up an oil spill on State Highway 6 on the South Island's West Coast.
Three fire crews were called to the route where it intersects with Serpentine Road at 5.50am.
FENZ said that a member of the public reported it was around 1000 litres in size and likely fell off a truck.
They said they had shutdown one lane of the road and are working to clean it up with the local road authority.
