Auckland Transport (AT)has stood down a bus driver following an alleged assault on a passenger, who later died in hospital.
The bus driver has been charged with assault, and made their first appearance in court last week.
The alleged victim, in his 60s, was found with serious head injuries at a bus stop in Papatoetoe on 27 April 27. He died from his injuries last Wednesday.
AT said the driver was employed by its operator Go Bus, and had been stood down.
"We were devastated to hear about this incident and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic event," AT public transport and active modes director Stacey van der Putten said.
She said AT was taking the incident "extremely seriously", and both AT and Go Bus were assisting the police with their investigation.
