Firefighters evacuated a commercial building in Morrinsville overnight after reports of a possible gas leak.
Fire and emergency said crews were alerted to reports of a chlorine or ammonia-like smell at about 3.45am on Thursday.
Nine crews had responded including the hazmat unit and crews who could enter the building wearing specialist breathing equipment.
FENZ said a refrigerator technician had since cleared the site.
The building had been evacuated as a precaution, FENZ said.
