Carter out for eight weeks

8:26 am on 23 August 2010

All Blacks first five Daniel Carter needs ankle surgery which will keep him out of rugby for up to eight weeks.

Carter's been troubled throughout the Tri-Nations by a right ankle

An injury is restricting movement in his right foot and affecting his calf muscle. Carter says it's obviously in his best interests to have the surgery now.

He will miss the final Tri-Nations match against Australia in Sydney on 11 September, but should be fit for a match against the Wallabies at the end of October in Hong Kong and a northern hemisphere tour in November.

Carter will have the operation on Tuesday in Christchurch.
