Auckland museum evacuated

8:58 pm on 16 April 2010

A fire alarm has caused a brief evacuation of hundreds of people at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

The Fire Service says a sprinkler head was knocked off in the events centre at 12.55pm on Friday. Crews are assisting museum staff to clean-up.

The museum says damage is limited to water damage to large rugs.

The area was being set up for a corporate event on Friday night, which will continue as planned.

The events centre is on the top floor of the museum and not connected to any collections.
