A woman struck in the face by a glass beer bottle thrown from a passing car is in an induced coma in Tauranga Hospital.
Police say the 65-year-old was walking on Domain Road in Papamoa just after 8.15am on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says the impact of the partially-full bottle has left the woman with horrific facial injuries.
Mr Turner says it is a senseless act against an innocent victim and although some witnesses have spoken to police, more information from the public is urgently needed.
Police believe four people were in the car.
